Back home for now and winning ball games
I just returned from a very relaxing vacation in Los Cabos thanks to my wife’s hard work and Party Lite. You gotta love that company!
I hope to not travel in June and instead spend time coaching my softball team, finishing my yard, and camping with my family. My coach pitch softball team is doing well this year and we are in 3rd place and working hard to get into the top 2 for that end-of-year trophy. The girls have come a long ways since last year and it is fun to coach and watch them develop into little ball players.
Danika makes the JV soccer team
I am so proud of my girls for working hard to succeed in sports and I just received a text message from my oldest that she made the JV team at her middle school. This is great since there were over 50 girls trying out for the varsity and JV teams and to make either one is quite an accomplishment. I love watching my girls play sports and seeing them grow and develop into great team players and wonderful citizens of this world.
Mal's Washington Premier soccer team continues to roll
My middle daughter is a super athlete and she plays on a premier level select soccer team. They did OK in their regular fall season, but could definitely be better. Then this winter we started playing in the 2007 Fred Meyer Commissioners Cup state tournament and won 3 games and lost 2 in the preliminary round. We should have won at least 4, but the offense had some trouble making goals at times. These games were played in snow and rain and it was pretty dang cold too. Luckily, the other team that we had the same record as ended up scoring less than us so we made the State tourney. The story has been a bit different in the elimination rounds as we won 2-1 and then 3-1 the last two weekends and are now in the semi-finals with just 4 teams left in the U-11 girls division. If we win next week then we are in the finals and the girls are VERY excited and are playing together very well. I am seeing good passing and of course, rock solid defense and it is really fun to watch.
Mal is excited to keep going since she has decided not to try out this year and instead focus for a year on basketball. She is an incredible basketball player and is super fast. If she sticks with basketball, I think there will be a good chance you will hear her name in the WNBA some day. Yes, she is that good!
UPDATE: The team fought a hard fight and lost this past Sunday in the 2nd overtime period when the other team kicked in a high goal that was unstoppable. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough time left for us to get one more in and we lost. The girls played very well in the post season and had a wonderful year overall. Now it is on to the basketball court
Home from CES and busy, cold weekend
I finally arrived home on Thursday night after staying in a dump hotel that Alaska put me up in for 5 hours. I almost missed the shuttle back to the airport thanks to the excellent staff at this high quality hotel (yeah right). It was good to get home, but boy was it cold. I then went to work on Friday and spent Saturday and Sunday going to very cold soccer games that my middle daughter was playing in.
The Seahawks lost to Chicago in overtime, but they actually looked pretty dang good today. If we didn’t have the rookie defensive back in for an injured player then things may have gone a bit differently, but hopefully we have a healthy team next year and can go all the way. Nice job today Seahawks.
Seahawks get lucky for once
Usually, the chips seem to fall against the Seahawks in the playoffs, but tonight we squeaked by when the Dallas QB dropped the chip shot field goal to win the game. A Seahawk player then made an awesome chase-from-behind tackle to save the game and let Seattle survive for another week in the playoffs. They travel to Chicago next week, which will be a tough game and could be in some tough conditions too.
GO SEAHAWKS! Let’s get back to the Super Bowl and see if we can play a real team rather than a crew of black and white.
The 7th grade girls won their first game
I talked about how proud I was of my oldest daughter making the basketball team and they just won their first game handily. Danika had a great assist and did well on defense in her first game and I was very proud of her efforts. It is so strange to see my daughter out on the court in a school uniform since it just doesn’t seem like I am that old to be a father of an almost teenage girl. It brought back many memories of the days when I played all the school sports. It is great to be a dad of such awesome kids and I look forward to being a fan in the stands.
Miller girls sports update: Can Danika whip Shaq?
I have been meaning to post a congratulatory note here on my little blog for my oldest daughter. She has never played organized basketball before because she was always playing soccer or doing something else. She decided to try out for the 7th grade team and 22 girls came out for tryouts. I was extremely proud of her for going out there for the 3 days of tryouts since that is pretty brave when you are new to the sport and in an age when classmates aren’t always that friendly to each other. She worked her rear off and was one of the 15 girls to make the team. Isn’t that AWESOME?!!! I can’t wait to see her out there on the court next week when they have their first game.
We had an extremely busy weekend of soccer this weekend with all 3 girls playing yesterday. My oldest daughter’s team only lost 1 game all year, my middle daughter’s premier select team did OK with a few losses and 3rd place, and my youngest daughter’s (I am the coach) team improved 1000% over last year and only lost a couple games. They all played hard and learned something about the sport, which is the important part.
Basketball also kicks off for my other two daughters and I’ll be happy to be watching sports inside during this season. I am not coaching anything this season as I have some travel and other business to work on and can’t commit to coaching right now.
Back from trips back East, undefeated soccer teams, etc.

I was in New York City for several hours and then headed north to Boston for Mobius 2006. BTW, you can check out my report here on Geek.com.
I enjoyed NY and attended the Nokia Open Studio event where they announced lots of devices, including the N95 and N75. I want the N95 and I want to get my wife the N75 for Christmas. I then visited the Apple store and swung by the Nokia Flagship store, but that one was closed and I could not convince anyone to let me in.
I received some cool gear at Mobius and was using the super slim Samsung SGH-i320 the last couple weeks, but the battery life stinks so I am going to give it away on a contest on my ZDNet blog. If you are on T-Mobile then enter the contest to win this cool prize. Cingular customers shouldn’t enter because it doesn’t support the 850 MHz band. I was going to go buy a T-Mobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) today, but T-Mobile just faked us out with the announcement since they won’t be available for another 2 weeks. I wonder if I can sweet talk any T-Mobile managers to sell me one from the back
I’ll be traveling to Hawaii for work here in less than 2 weeks and taking my wife and oldest daughter along. Speaking of my daughters, my oldest and youngest daughters soccer teams are both undefeated. I coach my youngest daughter’s team and we are having a blast this year. They have improved 1000% over last year and it is lots of fun.
The U.S. may not be winning, but Washington Premier FC is
It’s that time of year again when my middle daughter enters the heat of battle in select soccer tournaments. They have several new players on their team and had a tough first tourney last month, but they sure came alive this weekend with a 5-0 record and winning the championship match with an exciting shoot out up at the Skagit Firecracker tourney. The defense was rock solid and only allowed 3 goals in all 5 games. It was a great Father’s Day gift!
Busy, busy, busy

I am sorry that I have been so lame in making posts here on my blog, but I am SWAMPED at work and barely have a chance to breathe. Select soccer and baseball season is also kicking off so any free time I thought I had is now out the window for a couple months. I am also the new webmaster for the Puyallup Soccer Club so I am working on a completely new site for them too.
I also am working on a special project right now that I can’t wait to tell you about later when I am allowed to share the details.
I travel to Savannah, Georgia this weekend for more research vessel stability testing and will try to post more regularly as I can.
