Read the ESV Bible in OneNote on your UMPC
One of my favorite new websites that I just discovered and now visit every day is GottaBeMobile.com. I have MacSword on my MacBook and eSword on my Samsung Q1 for mobile Bible reading, but then recently read an article on GottaBeMobile regarding the release of <a href="http://www.tabletbible.com/
I am a TEO 3.0 contest winner
Many of my friends and family call me Forrest because I have an uncanny way of winning things, getting into rare events, etc. For example I was number 49 of 50 people in the public who were allowed to go into the U.S. Supreme Court case of Gore vs. Bush a few years ago. I also seem to win all the time at bingo and am just blessed in life. The latest win for me came today when I was announced as one of two Tablet Enhancements for Outlook (TEO) 3.0 contest winners on GottaBeMobile.com. I just downloaded the trial to test out on my Samsung Q1 and can’t wait to get into this application that I have seen described as the “killer” Tablet PC application.
The first MoTR show with me in it is now live!

MoTR podcast number 54 is now available for listening and yours truly is the new 3rd host. They go through an intro section and then we move on to discuss a few more things like the new Microsoft iPod killer, Nokia N91, and Nokia podcatching application. I am just listening to it myself and look forward to improving and getting better as the shows go on. Please let me know what you think and also pass along any ideas for future shows you may have. Thanks and enjoy.
I LOVE the Q1 UMPC!

It seems like most everything I read online knocks down the UMPC devices, but after using one now for about a month or so I am extremely pleased with it and have NO regrets about the purchase. I have taken it on two business trips with it being the only PC I used for getting work done and entertainment.
I have seen some posts on jkOnTheRun and the Origami Project with thoughts about what people like and dislike so I would like to post some of my own.
Likes:
- Awesome portable media center with very good stereo speakers. I use WMP and also iTunes and really like the AVS Now feature.
- Portable slate tablet at a good price
- Great in-car GPS system I use with Streets & Trips 2006 and my Bluetooth GPS
- Very light and easy to carry on flights
- Integrated stand is a great bonus I use every day
- Nice to have integrated CF slot. I bought a SD to CF adapter too to use with my camera and other devices
- Nice bright display
- Good quality WiFi radio that picks up a ton of access points
- High quality mics for Skype use
Dislikes:
- Short battery life. I am using the Battery Geek Portable Power Station to help with this though.
- Some Bluetooth issues. I am going to restore it as soon as the Targus DVD I bought arrives from ebay.
- Navigational pad is junk with the 10 pixel or so jagged movement. A mouse/trackpad thing like the UX50 has would be perfect
- Display resolution should be higher to avoid issues with dialog boxes. I also lost the ability to switch after I tried to restore using a CF card and hope to fix this soon too
Overall I am very happy with the Q1 and am using it for almost everything.
Sent from my Nokia E61
Mobile devices taken on the road to Duluth
Posted by palmsolo in Series 60, Smartphone, UMPC, Work on June 28, 2006
I dropped my trailer and family off on Saturday at one of our camping resorts and then headed out to Duluth, Minnesota for a couple days for business. I packed along the Q1 UMPC, Nokia E61, Nokia N91 (I just received one to test out), and Sony UX50 Micro PC.
I actually used the Q1 to conduct the stability test and plot the curves using the beta Office Pro 2007. I did have some issues with getting the Think Outside Bluetooth keyboard to pair correctly consistently and also no longer have the ability to change screen resolutions. When I tried to reinstall everything after buying the Q1 (wanted to get rid of reviewer’s junk) I didn’t have an external DVD drive and tried to make it work with the CF slot. I think there were things missing though and am in the process of bidding on a Targus external DVD/CD right now and will reinstall and start from scratch again.
I brought the UX50 and after using it for a couple days I am happy I bought the Samsung unit. The UX50 display is just too small for Windows, the keyboard is a bit too wide, and there is no Tablet PC OS installed. Also Sony loaded lots of junk on the device, whereas the Samsung Q1 has a very minimal amount of 3rd party and proprietary apps loaded on it. The UX50 is definitely a piece of quality hardware, but it is not for me personally.
The E61 worked well, of course, but I couldn’t get any T-Mobile data to work. A couple of times it seemed to work and my email got through, but it was sporadic and mysterious as to why that worked.
The N91 was awesome for listening to podcasts on the airplane and I’ll chat a bit more about that later.
Sony VAIO UX50, Nokia N91, and more in the Geek.com Labs
Boy, last night felt like Christmas with a Sony VAIO UX50, Nokia N91, and Battery Geek Portable Power Station box on at my house after work. I have my work cut out for me as I get to reviewing this and much more for Geek.com. I posted some initial impressions that will go up on a Geek.com Labs entry later this afternoon. I have to say that the Sony is very impressive, but so far I actually like the Q1 UMPC better for a few reasons that I’ll post about on one of my other blogs. It sure is fun being a product reviewer and writer, except for the lack of time to sleep
I bought the Samsung Q1 UMPC
I am now the proud owner of a Microsoft Origami (now UMPC) Samsung Q1 device. I bought the demo model from Dynamism for a slightly reduced price since it was already in my hands and in mint condition. I am using it right now to listen and watch podcasts and video podcasts using iTunes and my Bluetooth stereo headphones. I am really like the multimedia features that make this a Portable Media Center on steroids.
I also loaded and ran my two naval archtiecture/salvage applications yesterday and they both ran like a champ, making this an incredible on site salvage tool. Stay tuned for more thoughts on the UMPC
Samsung Q1 is new object in the house
I have been posting more on my ZDNet blog and just returned from a couple of days of travel to the East Coast. Check out my blog entries there for some thoughts on the Samsung Q1 UMPC.
BTW, I still LOVE the Nokia E61 and find it to be a better device for me than the Treo 650.
