Need help finding a Nokia N70 compatible MP3 player application

OK, I am getting a bit frustrated with the Nokia N70 right now. The device comes with a Music Player application, but it has very limited functionality and in my opinion is quite useless. I just want a couple basic functions (move forward or backwards) and I’ll be happy enough. You see I am listing to podcast with the N70 and if I use another application or take a photo and then want to return to where I left off in the show I can’t go there, but have to listen to the whole show again. This may be OK for a short song, but a 30-minute podcast is tough to listen to 5 times to get back where you were.

I tried WMAPlus, OggPlay, and UltraMP3 as well, but WMAPlus and OggPlay don’t seem to work on the N70 (they launch, search for files, and then kick me back out to the S60 launcher screen) and UltraMP3 distorts the sound and is quite poor. If any readers know of any other MP3 players that would work on the N70 or N90 I would appreciate the tip. At this time, Palm and Windows Mobile beat the S60 with music playing functionality.

Check out ALON Software for some alternative programs. I haven’t actually tried this on the N70 though. Also TCMP is coming to Symbian soon(ish). You could try getting on the beta. By the way I believe there is a N70 compatiable version of OggPlay, but you need to download one of the version on SourceForge.

Rafe, you ROCK!!! I just tried the ALON Software player and it works like a champ on the Nokia N70. I am listening to podcasts right now via my Cardo Scala 500 Bluetooth headset. It’s not in stereo, but good enough for listening to podcasts. My commute home will that much more enjoyable now 🙂
