I heard the news and am sure many of you have seen it regarding a Christian brother who is being tried in Afghanistan for converting from Islam to Christianity. The punishment is death if the person is found guilty. There is quite a bit of persecution of Christians throughout the world today as we move closer and closer to the return of Jesus and we can even see many in the U.S. who like to slam the Christian faith. The President is trying to persuade our allies to be fair and it will be interesting seeing how this is played out in the U.S. media and in politics. I ask that you pray for this man and the many other Christians throughout the world who are being persecuted. It is easy to forget how blessed most of us are and how many give their lives for Jesus.

We need to remember that laws (especially regarding religion and/or politics) are highly subjective. The first thing your post made me think of was how terrible it would be to be persecuted over something such as religious belief (I myself am agnostic). The second thought that came to my mind was of America’s stance on capital punishment. I’m aware that only a handful of states endorse this means to an end, however, in the eyes of an unbiased judicial system…. two crimes such as conversion to christianity (in AFG) and murder (in USA) would be one and the same. I enjoy vacationing to your country (I myself am from Canada) but I often reflect on how different we are.
