Nokia E61i is at the house, I am not :(

WOW, I ordered a Nokia E61i from Phone-Source USA on Friday after selling my Nokia E61 on ebay (within 10 minutes of listing the auction) and it arrived today from China. That is amazing that it went through the FedEx system on Saturday and Sunday to arrive on Monday. Unfortunately, I am in San Diego until Thursday night so I can’t play with it at all.

I had the chance to use the Nokia E61i for a day in Spain and LOVED it so after looking at what was out there I decided it was worth the upgrade from the E61. As cool as the E90 is, I think the E61i fits my needs better and will stick with that for now.

I will agree that it’s cooler than the E61, but not at all perfect. I got the E61i a few days ago and today it played spot duty when my Treo 80’s battery fell flat. It’s good, but seems incomplete in some ways to me.

It’s still a nice package though. The Treo ‘should’ have been designed like this.

Hi palmsolo! Nice to see you are sticking with S60 for now…

Could you post some kind of comparison of E61 vs E61i? I’ve been using E61 for a year now and I’m looking for an upgrade. E90 could be the perfect device for me at the moment due it’s HSDPA, large screen and the new Nokia browser. The only problem with it is it’s size. I’m also considering E61i but as I don’t need camera (like to have it of course), I can’t justify myself an upgrade to almost identical device.

    Yo Matt
How much did you get for the E61? Still using mine but am being tempted by all the talk of E95, etc. Why the E61i over N95?
Enjoy listening to MOTR. I just bought a new Macbook Pro and plan to load Windows with Parallels soon.

I sold it on ebay for US$275 and threw in a Nokia Bluetooth headset and free shipping. It actually sold within about 10 minutes of listing it and I gave the buyer a good deal. I then found the E61i at PhoneSource USA for US$420, which I considered a good deal.

The E61i isn’t that compelling of an upgrade, but I personally like having a camera with me to capture moments with my girls, I REALLY like the updated form factor (thinness, keyboard, buttons), and I wanted to have the text message reader application. I am working on a full review that will go up on ZDNet in a couple weeks.

JuhaN, I think there will probably be an updated E61 type device this fall that may have GPS, a higher res camera, and most likely the Feature Pack 2 updates. If you are happy with the E61, then I would stick with it for now. I just had to make the sacrifice for my readers 😉

Robert, I was sent a N95 through the Blogger Relations program and I do really like it. But, I am a big thumb keyboard fan and get MUCH longer battery life out of the E61/E61i so in practicality it is a better device for me. The N95 is fun and has a ton of high end features and I do take it out and about and actually use it as my main camera when I am mobile.
